The Union Government said that the accreditation of a journalist can be permanently canceled if the person was found generating or propagating fake news. The amended guidelines for the accreditation of journalists state that if a publication or telecast of fake news is confirmed, then the accreditation of the journalist responsible for it will be suspended for a period of six months in the first violation and for one year in case of a second violation. In case of a third violation, the concerned journalist’s accreditation would be canceled permanently.
